kosmøs is:

Tidbits:

  • Founding members Ben and Tim Tonak are originally from Wyoming.
  • The Tonak brothers moved to Denver in 2004, where after some band lineup changes, they met current band members Nick Fiore and Nate Mender.
  • Musically, the band proclaims itself to have “garage band sensibility mixed with arena rock accessibility.”
  • kosmøs recently opened for Atlantic Records’ The Academy Is… at the Major League Soccer All-Star Jam in Denver.
  • kosmøs spent two years recording their debut album Ways of Letting Go at Maximum-Joy Studios (formerly Avalanche) in Denver. Famous for its drum sound, the facility has been host to bands like INXS, The Pretenders. Kenny Loggins and The Rolling Stones. During the recording of kosmos’ album, members of the band had a running joke of playing or singing riffs from Kenny Loggins’ “Danger Zone” during line checks.
  • Ed Brooks of RFI/CD mastered kosmøs’ album. Brooks mastered Death Cab For Cutie’s Transatlanticism, and a series of live albums from Pearl Jam, among other things.
  • Nick Fiore, currently drumming for the band, has toured nationally and internationally playing with and opening for such artists as Geoff Tate (Queensryche), Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big, Racer-X), Meat Puppets, Jesus Lizard, 7 Seconds, Faith No More, Fact Meets Fiction, and other artists.

Quotes:

  • "Kosmos is destined for big things. Song after song is accessible without being overproduced. I know I'm sold when I want to listen again and again." – Ace Young - 14 years of morning drive at top rated KMET-FM, Los Angeles (album-oriented rock, 94.7FM)
  • “I get about 125 CDs in here every month, and this is one of the top five for the year. You should be proud of this. I think it is beautiful and heartbreakingly good.” – Rhonda Kelly, Rainmaker Publicity, Boston, MA
  • “We record a lot of projects here because we have to pay the bills, but this project is one that I will enjoy listening to in my car on the way to work.” – Steve McElhenney, Owner, Maximum-Joy Studios, Denver
  • “Kosmos are the real deal… Smart rock at its finest. This band has done their homework.” – Russ Davidson, Program Director, Sheridan Media, Sheridan, WY
  • “Kosmos connects with my ears. Ben Tonak is a gifted young writer whose songs are about to break through. Listen to such tracks as What It Is, Elizabeth and Ways of Letting Go. With medium air-play these songs are chart contenders.” – Jim Pewter, Former Program Director, KEarth L.A. & KRLA, Pasadena
